Founded on November 1, 2013, the African and Caribbean Students’ Union of Amherst College fosters, analyzes and celebrates African and Caribbean cultural and political identities. The ACSU educates and empowers the Amherst community by raising awareness about Africa and the Caribbean in order to dispel stereotypes, and instead, instill cultural pride in Africans and Caribbean nationals. Thereby, the ACSU equips every member with the confidence and knowledge he/she needs to generate socioeconomic progress and prosperity for African and Caribbean people.
Since our inception, the ACSU has been dedicated to expanding African and Caribbean culture on campus. So far we have coordinated our Where Is the Love? Food Fest to give Amherst a taste of the foods we love. This year we have organized our Wave Your Flag event but this year we’ve made it bigger and better just for you. This year we have added a dinner and weekend long activities to showcase and highlight the diversity of our cultures and to ask the entire Amherst community to join us in celebrating the cultures of the world by telling us why they wave their flags.
